So secretly, the Poles turn out to be the best filmmakers in all of Europe and this film belongs to the top of Polish film.

The whole film plays in and around a sleeper train on its way to the Polish coast with holidaymakers, pilgrims and Jerzy who thinks he has a compartment for himself, but also meets a young lady with unclear travel motives and then the newspaper is full of stories about an escaped killer.

Beautiful soundtrack that goes from the clean Morricone-esque singing to jazz and back again, meanwhile we hear the sound of the thundering train and we see the landscape pass by and we get to know the main characters and their fellow travelers and that in the time you reach the conductor gave a nice hand at the end of the journey.

Masterpiece!

Atmosphere and character sketch, with some remarkable scenes, such as this one with the panic and paranoia in the narrow corridor of a long-distance train and also its continuation in the countryside with the fight, under the rhythmic dog barking, as a paraphrase of the hopeless folly of the masses.

No great optimism in this film. Most characters have few hopeful perspectives, which is supported by the melancholic music.

A Polish film from 1959 and not an ordinary one and it took some getting used to. Not very familiar with Polish film, nor with its maker. Maybe a second vision, on occasion.
