I am somewhat surprised at the low rating of this film. Did most people find the story poor or was it something else? I thought it all came together very well. As is often the case with mystery, you are left with questions at the end, not with this one. That may also be for a change. The actress who played Dorothy she looked so young and I've been trying to find out her age but imdb doesn't show date of birth. Googled a little further and if her biography is still up to date, she would be 27 years old. That means she was 22 years old at the time of the movie! She did look very youthful. Not a super movie but story was great for me and the right atmosphere.

Rarely seen a movie that only really ends at the end, so the last scene surprised me. But this still doesn't take the entire film to the top.

Van Houten acting too meager for me and Dorothy, well a debut, and not really convincing.

It was an unusual mix of the Sixth Sense (plot wise) and The Exorcist.

Worth watching, but not more than that.

Story is nice, although we have already seen a lot of variants on this.

Atmosphere and the people in the village are still reasonable. But what brings this Dorothy Mills down is the shameful acting. Carice already plays very badly, with that annoying accent (Michiel Huisman does 100x better), but Dorothy herself is even worse. The film loses all credibility here. What remains is an entertaining story with a ditto atmosphere, although it is not so overwhelming that it can save the film.

1,5*
