Annie plot

"The movie of 'Tomorrow'"

It's Dec '33. New York City, like so many other cities around the world, is going through a major depression. The traditional Christmas spirit is hard to find now that people are facing serious financial and emotional difficulties. However, one girl has not yet given up hope. The orphaned child Annie is still bursting with optimism and dreams. Annie was once left at the front door of the orphanage. The only memory of her parents is part of a silver locket and a note in which her parents promise to pick her up someday. Annie strongly believes in that promise and meanwhile makes the best of her life. Miss Hannigan is in charge of the orphanage and she is not making it easy for Annie and the other children. Annie therefore decides to look for her parents herself and she flees.

This movie is a very great torture. In this movie I found the kids very annoying and they acted badly and that Annie is just a red-haired monster. Just an annoying musical.

Good film about an orphaned girl who is allowed to stay for a week with a billionaire. A simple story for this fairly grandiose musical. Enough fun songs with of course the well-known 'Tomorrow' as the highlight. Beautifully dressed and the thick acting fits perfectly within the whole. The young, red-haired curly-haired Aileen Quinn does it with more than enough enthusiasm. For John Huston this is a deviant film within his oeuvre.

Maybe 30 years since I last saw this one.

Ultimate youth sentiment. The story of the orphaned girl Annie, a fairy tale with Dickensian features. In the dilapidated orphanage of the boozy Miss Hannigan (a wonderful role by Carol Burnett), Annie grows up among other orphaned girls. "It's a hard knock life" they sing through the halls. One day, Grace, billionaire Oliver Warbucks' secretary, arrives at the orphanage to select a girl and give her an unforgettable week, Annie, a red-haired, roguish and smart girl, is chosen. Warbucks is a dour workaholic who doesn't really like children at all, but this gesture is good for his image. Ultimately he wants to adopt Annie, but she wants to look for her real parents... Now a classic among musical films, surprisingly directed by veteran John Huston, who we know from very other films. The choreography in the film is magical and the entertainment value is high. The cast plays the stars of heaven, also the supporting roles, such as those of Bernadette Peters, Tim Curry and Ann Reinking are great.
