Damn what a movie. I knew this wouldn't be a fun family film, but I didn't see this brutal coming. Rojas indeed starts off right away with a pretty crazy intro, but I think the real punch to the gut is the rape. In terms of sex, not even very explicit, it is mainly the brutal and beastly way in which the two psychopaths act that makes it a tough scene. Also a few big mistakes, such as the baby scene. Not exactly shocking, just very cheap and forced.

Halfway through the shock level fades away a bit and we mainly work towards a somewhat gory finale. Fortunately, Rojas does not fall into the same trap as A Serbian Film by going ridiculously over-the-top, the film continues to roll relentlessly, but the focus shifts a bit more to the gore, which is quite impressive by the way. There were absolutely no effects and nothing is really avoided.

On the one hand, it is a bit of a shame that all this is cast in a somewhat predictable rape & revenge mold, but on the other hand, Rojas really knows how to get the most out of it. Visually it all looks great, the settings are atmospheric and the soundtrack absolutely does its job. I also thought Juan's backstory was a nice addition, it makes this film stand out just that little bit more within this genre. But its greatest strength lies in the completely uncompromising character, the more than convincing gore and the big gutpunch that you get every now and then as a viewer. I started at 3.5* but am making it a cautious 4*. Not a nice film, but one that really sticks in your mind.

Wow, put this one in the same category as I spit on your grave, Hostel, Saw or even more illustrious films like Martyrs or Serbian movie. Not that it's that extreme here in the sense of "gore", but it gets in there anyway. The opening scene is perhaps the most brutal and loose, but the other rape scenes are also nice, although I found the scene in Irréversible (Film, 2002) much more unbearable to watch, more authentic too.

Anyway, we can also immediately attribute this to Pinochet. They don't always have to be Nazis... It may be a bit easy to link traumatic experiences to derailed behavior, but that is not exactly the intention of the film.

The bizarre thing about such revenge porn is often who is the perpetrator and who is the victim. In the scene where the follower is beaten to death by those unhinged women, I felt very little. Rather some satisfaction, actually. Had the roles been reversed, I would have found it more disgusting...

The content is not great of course, but it is reasonably put together. Not something I really want to see again, it's not interesting enough for that. Not for sensitive viewers, although even that is relative.

Phew, it's been a while since I saw a video like this. Films are sometimes dismissed as "shocking", but often it doesn't mean much. The last time I really had to recover from a movie was Martyrs I think. What is particularly clever is the design and further development of the drama. Often there is too much build-up or the writing is too poor. However, Trauma manages to find the same balance as Martyrs and that balance provides exactly that hard sledgehammer blow that I like so much.

The opening scene immediately sets the tone, grabbing you by the throat without ever letting go. Okay, it also has gold in its hands with those lesbian scenes, because this way the opening not only remains interesting, but also creates sympathy for the ladies in question (however superficial). Then it doesn't take very long before the misery starts and it will take a while before the misery ends, because this is one that people will not soon forget.
