A nice film that is easy to watch and also provides the necessary tension for the viewer(s).

Don't expect a top horror like The Shining (1980) / The Shining (1997) or A Quiet Place Part II (2020).

The storyline is beautifully made, the cast does his/her best and the set is fine but..... there could have been more if the storyline had been better explored.

Still, the film met our "light" requirements and for that we award the film a small 7.

Pretty nice.

But obviously this film came with a certain status and I understand some of that. I think director Bell has become a bit of the Uwe Boll of the horror genre. It's easy to quickly and effectively criticize his films, but I actually thought this Separation wasn't too bad.

What the film especially lacks is some tension, because the concept of bad clowns appearing in dreams should provide the necessary tension. Even though Bell does provide the attributes, the necessary tension is simply missing. The lighting is nice, the atmosphere is ominous, but the scares and build-up fail. As a result, Separation is never the scary movie it should have been.

The acting is not very strong, but not very weak either. Friend does his best to create something reasonable with his fairly mediocre role. McGraw is fairly invisible as a little daughter. Brewer is doing quite well, and in the meantime she has already managed to build a fan base. We also have Cox, who still acts quite well in his short role.

Separation is a horror film that ultimately lacks the finishing touch. The effects are nice, the atmosphere is nice, but when it comes to horror it's just not scary enough. The camera work during the horror scenes is too simple, the editing is not good enough either. However, what I especially miss, as I mentioned earlier, is the structure. The horror is often poorly constructed, which makes it difficult for the film to be scary, because the film does not give you the space to feel the threat.

Nice concept, and the support is there, but in the end the moderation prevails too much. In addition, the film has too few innovative substantive areas that should lift it as a whole. This story did not have to last 107 minutes, and the scenes that develop the characters are a bit too long. Not as bad as being broken up with, but not good either.

Not a bad movie. A bit slow at first. Good story with a nice twist
