The often-commentary comment on this film is that Tracy is miscast while Bergman is the only one to emerge unscathed, but I personally see it exactly the other way around: Tracy is strong and convincing, with a good mix of acting and subtle make-up in his transformation. -up (but I'm a big fan of his), while Bergman, well... an aristocratic beauty with a Swedish accent who plays a vulgar barmaid with a cockney accent, no, that doesn't appeal to me. But on the other hand, how wonderful Lana Turner is here (especially with that beautiful camera work).

Pointless but funny detail: this film is currently available on one DVD together with the 1931 version, and the two actors who play Jekyll and Hyde on one disc (Fredric March and Tracy) were also the first two actors to ever win two Oscars for won the best leading role.

Certainly not the first "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" made. I will also watch the 10 year older version with Fredric March and Miriam Hopkins. This version does have a more famous cast. I thought Spencer Tracy suited this role as the split personality. The man has a naturally calm facial expression, which further emphasizes the contrast with the psychopathic-looking Jekyll. By the way, I thought the transformation (although it looks old-fashioned) was quite successful. And then there's Ingrid Berman and Lana Turner. Two very beautiful women from this time. I wonder if other versions of "Jekyll & Hyde" reach the same level.

The DVD sleeve contained both this version and the one from 1931. Both films are not that different from each other. Everything runs fairly synchronously, even some dialogues. I have no specific preference for this or any other film.

Hyde and Jekyll have not undergone such a major metamorphosis, at least not physically. Less scary and the evil lies even more in the psychological aspect. A great role from Tracy. Furthermore, Ingrid Bergman stood out, how could it be otherwise with such a graceful beauty.

Quite enjoyed it and I have no specific preference for this or the other film. This one may seem a bit flatter, but remains entertaining.
