I finally liked it.

How clumsy can you make a film, Anderson must have thought. Resident Evil is the opposite of subtlety. There is a plot hidden somewhere, but RE takes so many side roads that you lose sight of this completely. A motherboard gone rogue, zombies, boss, a crook in our midst, everything will pass. And worst of all, it's still fun. The pace is really there, you don't actually get bored, but afterwards you wonder what you've been watching.

2.5*

Seen it a long time ago. The person Milla Jovovich is becoming associated with the Resident evil franchise. For the rest unknown to me, but always remembered her by this, her graceful appearance may also have played a part.

Other than that, not memorable as a character, but her sex appeal works wonders, although her character's development comes to a head when she transforms like a scared insecure girl into a special agent. Just watch her take out that (last) dog(s). Michelle Rodriguez is the other b*tch in town and, like in many of her movies, she is tough and brash. Avatar comes to mind the quickest. I don't follow the Fast & Furious franchise. The other (male) characters here are so colorless that I've already forgotten about them.

The rest of the content is not very good. More of an action game with zombies than a mere zombie movie. As a zombie film, there are better ones in the genre. Here and there a nice scene like with those lasers. The final shot in the desolate destroyed city also makes me optimistic for the sequel.

The mighty Umbrella Corporation depends on an AI supercomputer nicknamed “Red Queen Bee”. Due to the spread of a deadly virus, it activates a defense mechanism that makes access to The Hyve in which the computer is located seems impossible. It is up to a special unit to penetrate The Hyve, avoid the many traps and dangers and to defuse the supercomputer. The first of a long series of film adaptations based on the computer game of the same name has two powerful action heroes with Jovovich and Rodriguez, but after a nice first half hour, in which what has to pass for a story to unfold, a never-ending series of bloody confrontations with zombies follows. without tension or variation, but with an irritating soundtrack. Looks good, but falls into the common pitfalls of most movies based on a computer game. Next: Resident Evil: Apocalypse.
