Resident Evil: Apocalypse plot

"You're all going to die."

After Alice narrowly escaped from the underground Umbrella laboratory The Hive, she was arrested. Now she wakes up in a hospital and manages to escape. She finds herself in devastated Raccoon City, where she and a group of survivors, including Agent Jill Valentine and mercenary Carlos Olivera, must fight the horrific evil that roams there. This time around, zombies aren't the only thing, as something far more horrifying roams the streets of Raccoon City: the Nemesis, a terrible monster bent on destroying everything in its path.

“You're not mutation, you are evolution.”

Nice. These Resident Evil movies have been very entertaining so far. The story is a bit thin, but that is made up for with strong action scenes, the smooth pace, a dark atmosphere, nice acting performances and a high entertainment level. Jovovich and Guillory (as Jill Valentine) stand out in a positive way, and both actresses really come into their own in the action scenes. Sci-fi, zombies, lots of action scenes, beautiful women and a short playing time, sometimes it doesn't have to be that complicated.

At the end of Resident Evil, super soldier Alice [Milla Jovovich] escaped from the underground lab of Umbrella Corporation where a deadly virus had broken out and discovered that Raccoon City had become an extinct battlefield. This sequel explains in the opening what happened and introduces disgraced police officer Jill Valentine [Sienna Guillory] who will play a key role in the fight against the virus and the zombies that are making the streets unsafe. Plus, Umbrella tries to sweep everything under the rug. Poorly edited, comic-like action scenes and the complete lack of any originality make this a hopeless mission with a high body count but low entertainment value. The extra half star is for one surprising twist that is hinted at at the end of Resident Evil. Sequel: The last ten minutes are meant as a prelude to Resident Evil: Extinction. So...

At best you can call this a tiny bit of entertaining nonsense. Nonsense that happily continues with the mess and atmosphere from part 1. Only the CGI is very mediocre and the director really doesn't know how to film action. It's so crowded and chaotic that the choreography is never visible, which makes the action really unbelievably bad. The film is therefore too forgetful to really linger. He's kind of like Paul WS Light, and I don't think much of him. I'll be happy if I can revise the upcoming films again, in which the post-apocalyptic will play a bigger role.
