A somewhat 'normal' crime film than part 1.

This part actually looks back at the history for part 1 but cannot be followed without having seen part 1. Chronologically, the films should be seen as first, part 2, then part 1 and part 3 takes place in between parts 2 and 1 and also partly after part 1... Actually I would advise everyone to first The Departed watch to understand the whole story

This part is otherwise a great film but it lacks some tension and the fascinating cat-and-mouse game from part 1. Here it is more about the history and then actually not that of the moles from the first part but especially their bosses , who also do a great job, beautiful and convincing character roles again. The film therefore has more of a more epic and classic character, sometimes reminded me of The Godfather even.

The businesslike, almost sterile, atmosphere is also less revealed, it is a lot more emotional and sentimental here. Doesn't take away from the fact that it's all tightly and beautifully filmed.

The highlight are the great accounts from the film, I might say very spectacular.

Great movie, 3.5*

An excellent sequel. Maybe even better than part 1. I think the story is equal, the music better and because the film lasts a little longer and takes a little more time, maybe also a little better. Unfortunately, a long(er) story always has downsides. Especially with Asian films counterproductive. The characters are hard to tell apart and the language is really terrible to listen to. Still, this one was okay. Not enough not to bother me, but it wasn't an annoyance, like Japanese movies.

Strong prequel. The first hour is certainly fun. Lots of players on the field, it is full of intrigue and has two great highlights with the new boss and the Big Four. Then around the end of the second act, the beginning of the third act, it slows down a bit and it also seems to have some difficulty to get going again. The enthusiasm is back when the process starts, the finale presents itself and a connection is made with the previous part. Eric Tsang is the star.
