Could definitely be better but it could also be worse. Group of friends are hunted and try to find the answer to their stalker. Special effects looked mediocre and again almost everyone dies regardless of the phone calls in which they warn each other. Fortunately everything is filmed in an atmospheric way and the choices of the characters remain somewhat understandable.

Well.

Wilson managed to surprise me a few weeks ago with the setup of The Night before Halloween. I actually want to see more of Wilson, but Mothman apparently comes from a period from which he still had to struggle unfortunately.

Mothman opens quite reasonably anyway. Unique cinematography, solid direction. It seemed like it could be something, although the genre of I Know What You Did Last Summer has been milked a bit dry. In that respect, the film is not more original. But that does not change the fact that it looked nice.

The film really only falls over when the Mothman makes his first entrance. The CGI is of a very questionable level. Something that Wilson apparently did better later. This looks a bit like an animated Blob with a tree trunk skin. It didn't look very good. And those eyes are indeed not possible.

Too bad because Wilson takes care of the rest of his film a bit better. The environments often look atmospheric and have enough detail, but as soon as that monster comes into view you can no longer take the horror build-up of the environments seriously.

Speaking of serious, Mothman takes itself too seriously. That monster looks pretty ridiculous, but Wilson himself doesn't seem to realize this. The roles also ask too much of the actors and actresses because none of them actually manage to act convincingly. Only Leggio does well, but he is clearly more experienced. Too bad there is also no room for any form of humor. Only building up tension that does not work.

The finale is remarkably bombastic, but it can't come to a bloodbath. Too bad, because a bit of a dirty mouth would have done the film quite well. Now it has become a tame SyFy film that is somewhat more atmospheric than its peers, but is therefore a lot less in terms of acting and animation.

Saw this on Fear, then I usually know, monsters galore! And 3.5 on imbd is still a lot. A lot of young people who can't act and sell a lot of bullshit....save yourself this misery
