Slightly less.

Because it is very much more of the same. It is a film by a director who, after the success of the first film, has become a bit too self-assured and therefore was no longer able to look at the result so critically. At least, that's how it felt while watching.

The first movie was actually a bit too long, this one adds another half hour. That's not really appropriate for a horror movie. It also doesn't help that the adult actors do less than the youth club of the first film. It feels a little less casual.

A little more humor, which often gets in the way. Many more it shapes, all of which have somewhat the same effect. Pennywise who can always pull the same trick. But especially the characters who actually all have to experience the same thing (but then personalized), which makes the film often quite repetitive.

It's not bad at all, with a little clipping path it could easily have been as good as the first I suspect, although I just heard that a 6-hour mastercut is coming, so Muschietti seems to see things differently. As an update to the old TV series it is more than successful, but as a sequel it should have been better. And watching both movies one after the other is really too much of a good thing.

3.0*

Huge setback.

For starters, it's a mystery to me how people can complain about 3.5 hours of Scorsese in the cinema but then pull this off. Unimaginable.

Ontopic: just like in the miniseries from 1990, this 2nd part with the adults is also much less strong than the first.

I actually blame this one more than the original because a decent budget and cast was available here.

The book is really followed through a simple sequence of the main bits without any atmosphere or really good narration. The director is actually quite a nerd.

Besides, everything that should be scary is rather laughable and utterly failed.

Didn't think so after part 1 but give me the one from 1990 anyway.

What a horrible ride... a typical episode of Bassie and Adriaan is even more exciting.

No, the ball(lon) is completely missed here.

1* for that Bryce Dallas Howard look a like.
