Not exactly special.

What makes this film a bit special are the cameos of some well-known names in the horror world. And not just cameos, but also fairly big horror names that just play a role here. We see The Evil Dead director Sam Raimi take on a role.

It's just a pity that the film itself ultimately fails to excel at anything. Not in kills, not in story, and unfortunately not in acting either. So it's just quite a normal slasher only this time in a supermarket, but a supermarket is no longer particularly original.

For the rest a long introduction before the blood starts to flow. At least 35 minutes passed before the blood spatter was allowed to fly over the screen. And if the film has nothing to say until then, those 35 minutes will pass slowly.

Just enough happens in those 35 minutes, but nothing memorable. And when the murders themselves start, unfortunately we only get 1 or 2 nice murders and then you're done. A different course of the film. Quite slow introduction, but the kills come one after the other.

But it doesn't last long and the roles of some big names are still fun. Too bad Estevez didn't stay in the picture for long. At the time, she had saved Sleepaway Camp II a bit.

Pretty nice slasher that tells a simple story with quite a few bloody moments. In terms of gore, you're in the right place here because there are a few very entertaining scenes. Not all kills are equally successful, but it is certainly entertaining. Elizabeth Cox as Jennifer has to keep an aggressive ex-lover from her at the supermarket, but the latter doesn't just give up and continues to stalk and annoy her during her work at the supermarket. The location is perfect for this story where the question is constantly present whether the ex-lover is really the psychopath. 6.5/10

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, some horror films were made that seem to lean towards comedy. I didn't know this one yet, but it also belongs to that suit. Written and directed by Scott Spiegel who also co-wrote Evil Dead II. With a reference like that, no surprise what he brings here. Then of course there is the presence of Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi who complete the picture. I had no idea that Sam Raimi is still acting.

The kills are all creatively worked out and seem to have an increasing gore degree. In the beginning I thought 'it's not too bad', also with the hilarious camera edits (from slashing a body to slashing a melon for example) but it became increasingly brutal in the picture afterwards brought. The characters have a fairly flat character content, and the plot is ultimately a bit silly, but that doesn't matter. The setting is atmospheric with a lot of attention for semi-dark lighting. And Spiegel has also amazed me with the numerous visually attractive shots he shakes up his sleeve. It was his debut and he clearly went for it.

As with Evil Dead II, the horror content was surpassed by the comedy for me. But it is also quite an art to be able to keep something like this in balance somewhere in a successful way. Without it becoming too cheesy or cringeworthy. None of that. Great performance and an entertaining evening.
