This was one of the best horrors of my childhood. I remember the opening scene so well. I found it brutal and terrifying.

Check it out again soon.

A horror film with a pleasant classic element. A group of people stumble upon something unforeseen, are threatened by an evil force and become paranoid. With kills, with a wonderful entourage, with a sinister mystery and with the most charming effects. The story doesn't offer much and is generally fairly fillable in advance. A little surprise here and there won't change that. I didn't mind that much.

Ghost Ship is by the way a film that was slammed here and there. And yet. A flop so to speak. And that has nasty consequences for careers. The film was directed by Steven Beck, who did not direct much after this film. He didn't direct anything anymore. The same goes for writer Mark Hanlon, who stopped producing another script after writing the script.

So is Ghost Ship so bad? I started with that approach. And no, I can't say afterwards that the film is bad. I actually thought he was okay.

The film focuses on pp atmosphere. At scary moments. On ghosts. And I love that. The film uses classic horror elements and that feels pleasantly familiar. First of all, a magnificent ghostly setting in the form of a ghost ship. Narrow corridors, hanging pipes and cables, dripping water. Sparse lighting. An ubiquitous nebula whose effect is further enhanced with the help of the characters' flashlights. Below that is a pleasantly threatening score that increases tension. Piece by piece nice things. And of course there's the tasty opening scene. Impressive and sinister.

The characters are unfortunately kept a bit sober. Now characters in an action-packed spectacle like this film do not have to be analyzed to the bone, but a little more experience with the characters through some background information would have been welcome.

Ghost Ship is not a flop as far as I'm concerned, but a well-executed action-horror. I had a great time.

mediocre.

As a non-horror fan, Ghost Ship has at times been not too bad for me. Provided that it goes more towards B-movie than that it wants to be serious cinema, one doesn't do much wrong. It's all pretty standard, interchangeable, and sometimes even negligible. The atmosphere is okay - for me the most important thing when it comes to horror. The beginning is, of course, very well known. With reason. What follows after is mixed success. It is by no means very exciting.
