De Lift plot
"Take the stairs, take the stairs. For God's sake, take the Stairs!!!"
At the end of an agricultural exhibition, a few visitors take the elevator. The moment they get in slightly intoxicated, lightning strikes. There is no immediate panic, but to make matters worse, the air exchange also fails. After the elevator unexpectedly restarts, four people have to be taken to hospital. Electrician Felix Adelaar is called in, but he is puzzled. All fuses are intact and there is nothing wrong with the lift itself. The elevator continues on its own course and there are dead and maimed people. When journalist Mieke De Beer intervenes in the case, Felix is sent on sick leave by his boss. That leads him to suspect that there is malicious intent at play...

Damn, this movie works well on the big screen! Saw the restored version in Kriterion last night, it comes into its own much better in the cinema than on home video I must say. Cinematographically more sophisticated than I remembered, effective jump scares and the hall was regularly flat.
I'm just going up to 4.5*.

Watched it again yesterday. Start half an hour later, fast forward commercials and yet finished at the same time, but that is completely aside.
Dick Maas has produced a number of classics with De Lift, Amsterdammed and Flodder, in a style all of his own and with an appearance that is usually lacking in contemporary Dutch cinema to the taste of this old prick.
The elevator has a nice structure and a nice suspense. The actors are doing well (except for Josien van Dalsum) and the plot is satisfying. You have to like the humor, but I can do something with it. With the necessary feeling of nostalgia thanks to all the well-known names that pass by, my **** rating stands proudly.
