Dick Maas, it is always pulp, but entertaining pulp. At times this film also reminds me of Pulp Fiction, such as the inquest with the casual remarks about hamburgers. Or simply because of the murders, where, just like Tarantino, the camera turns the camera supreme just for the moment, and it is mainly about the suggestion, but where Maas clearly wins with his air mattress against Tarantino with his ear in [i]Reservoir Dogs[ /i] for example. The corpse of the prostitute dragging bloody over the canal boat I don't see Tarantino doing at all to be honest.

In terms of characters and dialogues, this is also typically "in your face" Dutch, where just about every character is smart and/or has a big mouth. For example, I can really enjoy such a side character who calls the main character a "rusk cock", but a young Tatum Dagelet is also quite a nice addition. Furthermore, a lot of acquaintances of the Flodderkast. Huub Stapel in the lead of course, but also Lou Landré, and perhaps the best thing about seeing Lettie Oosthoek, neighbor Neuteboom in Flodder, as a raving bum.

Other than that, this is just an entertaining thriller. The tension is good, and there are some scenes that are quite spectacular for the time, such as the motorcycle chase, but especially the speedboat scene. It's nice that the Oude Gracht in Utrecht, perhaps the most beautiful canal in the country above the Amsterdam canals, which, on the other hand, has nicer houses, also passes by, when the boats spray the terrace goers on the quay and then slide onto the quay themselves. And the cameo by Bert Haanstra with his fanfare is absolutely beautiful, a wonderful tribute to this Dutch film pioneer.

Certainly not the best movie, if only because of the ending which is a bit easy, but it is very entertaining. 3.5*.

Revised for the umpteenth time, although I was a lot younger last time, but Amsterdamned still retains its strength.

Amsterdam of the 80s is wonderfully portrayed. Maas adds a killer diver, a cool detective, and above all a lot of action: Top entertainment. The action may actually be there. Chases are often top notch in Maas's films, as is the case here. Occasionally also dry humor, which sometimes works, and sometimes misses the mark. That should not spoil the fun, however, because it remains very entertaining for its entire playing time.

It surprised me that I was still shocked when the diver in the boat house jumps out of the water and grabs Monique van de Ven. Scene in the sewer is also very strong. With Amsterdamned, Maas has created something that to this day comes closest to a Giallo from the low countries. Remains interesting. By the way, very woodenly acted by everyone, but we'll look through that.

Looks more like an American movie in every way, and seems very commercially intended. The serial killer film Amsterdamned is well directed and does not bore. Maas managed to conjure up some strong scenes, not least the speedboat chase in the canals, perhaps the best action scene from the Dutch film. For some reason, despite the high quality, I found the tension to be lacking. Only the whodunit makes it still mysterious. The so-called exciting scenes in which the killer strikes are so predictable that they don't work at all. Like the Lift, this is an above-average thriller, which they should broadcast more on Belgian TV.
