It had been a long time since I last saw this Ronin. Nice thriller crime film with De Niro and Reno in the lead roles. Nice chemistry between the two. Very nice car chases in the streets of Paris and Nice. Good structure and atmosphere. In fact, everything is there to make a decent action picture without much fuss. It's a film that doesn't really excel at anything or set itself apart from a similarly decent film. Entertaining that is, and interspersed with the necessary dose of tension and mystery about the gray suitcase. Nice to see you again.

Released in theaters on a fairly large scale at the time, and when I saw it again recently, I wasn't bored with it. Reasonable action film by the never subtle Frankenheimer, which relies on three very spectacular-looking car chases (the rest of the action is very banal, seventies level). The story is deliberately blurry (what's in that briefcase we'll never know to our graves, which hurts anyway), and there are quite a few plot holes and improbabilities in Ronin. Form is clearly more important than content, so a rather empty but also exciting film. Intriguing while it lasts, but in the end also insignificant, especially suitable for those who have a warm heart for the real protagonist, Paris.
