Watched the DVD again yesterday, but it remains a good film that has stood the test of time excellently. Story in itself is not very special, but it is mainly the unparalleled good role of Cagney, which gives this film allure. This little man here was literally insanely good, almost unprecedented. Also nice to recognize here again that in older films the tendency to tell the story too verbosely is skillfully suppressed. No superfluous anecdotes and cumbersomeness in White Heat. The events are quickly captured in beautiful images and camera movements, while the viewer also has some room for own initiative. By the way, this method also results in two lesser phases: The how and why of the death of Jarret's mother passes by quite silently (not read in the picture), while this was an essential moment in the story. Could have been better. And the famous ending actually gets frayed very quickly and is over before you know it, it is also clear that they didn't have such a big budget at the time to portray such a spectacle. But these are actually just a few details about this movie monument that everyone should see.

Great strong crime thriller from the old box about a ruthless bad guy who spares nothing and no one. Apart from the close bond with his mother, the contrast is great in how he treats others. Cody is a fearsome gang leader, both internally and externally. Excellent role by James Cagney who plays the psychopathic character with the necessary flair.

The film has a strong plot and some excellent scenes. In addition to Cagney, Mayo and O'Brien also shine. It's a fast-paced movie. Few beats are made and the pace is high. So high, in fact, that an essential event like the death of his mother does not come into view.

Furthermore, a great cinematography and atmosphere setting with a great denouement. Really enjoyed this film noir. Nice!
