Krull plot

"A world light-years beyond your imagination."

Far in the future, in a world of magic and sorcery, Krull's story is set on the planet of the same name. The Beast and his army of Butchers rule the planet and its inhabitants with a heavy hand. The two kingdoms on Krull form an alliance to expel and destroy the Beast from its Black Fortress. This alliance is confirmed by the marriage between Prince Colwyn (Ken Marshall) and the beautiful Lyssa (Lysette Anthony). During the wedding ceremony, the Slaughterers attack the partying party and kidnap Lyssa. Colwyn embarks on a desperate search for his lover. To fight the Beast, he must have a special weapon with which he can resist the demonic powers of the creature. This weapon is the Glaive, a kind of boomerang with razor-sharp blades, which he finds in a cave. During his dangerous and adventurous journey to the Black Castle, where Lyssa is being held captive, several special people join him with whom he will fight the Beast together.

When you watch this kind of movies - which were certainly very modern at the time - you realize how much progress has been made in the field of special effects and the presentation of action scenes. When you watch this movie now, it is very dated and outdated, sometimes even funny and annoying. The fight scenes seem almost childish. From me only 3 stars. Krull is very much marked by the ravages of time.

A forgotten fantasy film that just about passes. The story is dead simple: save a princess from the clutches of a monster, undertake a dangerous journey with a motley crew that keeps growing. It smells Tolkien-esque and cliché squared. The hero is also an unimpressive figure, played by an unknown TV actor Ken Marshall. The special effects look particularly dated at times. The ending, which should have been an apotheosis, I found rather clumsily portrayed. Krull also has some very strong moments: I found the whole scene with the wizard who goes to the Widow of the Web masterful even. By far the highlight of the film for me. And in terms of sets, the film scores very strongly from start to finish. Despite the limited resources and the simple technology of that time, Krull is a decent result.

Film with cult status, but that does not mean a fantastic film. Hopelessly dated in many areas, but the images are beautiful and the cast is having a great time. In this sci-fi in a medieval setting, the kitsch bursts from the screen, but fortunately the story also knows how to captivate and the spectacle is presented in an entertaining way. The music lifts this adventure film to epic heights.
