Anna Zádor has been working as a secretary on Duke Willie Palaffi's bank for six years. Every day she rides her bike to work and places flowers on Willie's desk. But Willie, aka 'the Budapest playboy', doesn't know she exists. Whiskers thinks Anna is a sweet and beautiful woman and believes she is the perfect woman for Willie. He insists that Willie's personal secretary Marika invite Anna to his costumed birthday party. Marika reluctantly does this, as she hopes to marry Willie. Marika, knows that Anna is out of cash and she helps her get a costume. At the party, everyone is elegantly dressed, except Anna. Willie takes pity on her and asks her to dance, but when his guests laugh at them, he retreats to his own party.
