"Daimajin"
The village where the samurai family Hanabusa lives is conquered by the cruel Samanosuke clan, who then treat the villagers as slaves. The surviving Hanabusas who managed to escape flee to a nearby and mystical forest, in the middle of which is their god Majin, a gigantic statue. To redeem the village of Samanosuke, they pray to Majin.

Considering the poster, the marketing, the synopsis—everything—it's already clear what this film is building towards, so it's no surprise that a giant stone statue comes to life. It does take a while to get there, and let's be honest, that's also the film's highlight. Before that time, much less happened, but it was still a beautiful, somewhat slow-paced folklore film about Japan during the samurai era. Nicely done, beautiful historical footage with excellent costumes and atmosphere, and a perfect resolution.
