Wilde Mossels plot

"Happiness is a foreign landscape"

Wilde Mossels tells the story of Leen, Daan and Jacob who try to give substance to their existence in a small village in Zeeland. While Daan sees his future in the village and Jacob sets his sights on studying, Leen tries to free himself from his oppressive existence in a different way. Visions of life in Ireland, motorcycling, music and wild parties offer temporary gratification, but no solution.

An atmospheric movie. The grey, gloomy image fits well with it. However, I also find it a bit boring. I was not constantly fascinated. On the other hand, I also find the peace and the environment in which little happens, something to be enjoyed. I myself live in the city, but I don't really like crowds and I often like to see village life. Also because it is so different from what I know. All in all, I think this is a pretty nice film and well played, but I'm not blown away. Enough. 3*

Saw this film again at Omroep Zeeland last week after years. And it has been remarkably well preserved. Erik de Bruijn paints an oppressive picture of life in a Zeeland village, in this case Bruinisse, at the end of the 1990s. You can't go anywhere, the boredom drips from it and then you just hang out in front of the cafeteria with a beer. The main character Leen wants to leave, but he is powerless. Like a wild mussel that just stays in place. But fortunately there is a lot of momentum and humor in the film, the latter mainly thanks to Frank Lammers, who immediately plays a strong role as a mussel fisherman on his debut. To support the story and the excellent acting: Beautifully shot pictures, mainly on Schouwen Duiveland; the Zeeland dialect, which is an impassable path for many actors, comes out nicely and the music is great. Nashville Pussy live in the Motor clubhouse of MC Zierikzee, how horny do you want it to be? And with a few great songs by Nuff Said (with Marijn Dorleijn from Moss I saw in the credits) the Zeeland party is complete. More than 20 years ago there was a poster on stage 't Beest in Goes with the call to play as an extra in Wilde Mossels. Apparently I had better things to do then. What 'ek dih noe regrets, hosternokke
