'Lucky' Conlon is a so-called 'wildcatter', someone who drills for oil in places where oil is not known to be in the ground. His wife Helen follows him everywhere. Julia Frayne has a soft spot for Lucky and she gets him work with her father, a successful oil baron. This preferred position creates resentment among other wildcatters and they turn against Lucky.
