The Scamp plot
Tod Dawson is a 10-year-old boy who no longer has a mother. He is abused by his abusive father, who is an alcoholic. Schoolteacher Stephen Leigh and his wife Barbara sympathize with the street urchin after a chance encounter in a tobacconist's shop. The lad eventually finds happiness with these friendly people who are childless themselves. But his father doesn't like that...
