The Midnight Sun plot

Russia, early 19th century. Both the Grand Duke Sergius and the banker Ivan Kusmin fall in love with the American-born ballerina Olga Morova. However, Olga only has eyes for the handsome and young officer Alexei Orloff. When Sergius is seen with Olga in an innocent but compromising situation by Alexei, he is furious and knocks Sergius down. Alexei is then arrested and sentenced to death. Desperate Olga goes to Ivan Kusmin and begs him to use his influence to save Alexei.
