The Man Upstairs plot
"A night of shattering suspense"
Peter Watson is in pain and can't get to sleep. One night he tries to get his gas heater on, but it doesn't work. He turns to fellow tenant and artist Arthur for help, but since he's spending the night with a model, he's not exactly helpful. Another neighbor, Pollen, wants to help him, but Watson knocks him down. Frightened and angry, Pollen enlists the help of the police. The rest of the residents have since woken up and Mrs. Harris tries to help Peter, but he also refuses to accept her help. Then the police arrive with Dr. Sanderson. Peter is now brandishing a gun...
