The Man from Kangaroo plot

John Harland is an ex-boxer who has become a minister in the town of Kangaroo. He falls in love with Muriel, an heiress whose parents have died. He discovers that her guardian, Giles, is embezzling money from Muriel's inheritance. Giles then has Harland dismissed as minister. When Harland later goes to work elsewhere, he runs into Muriel again.
