The Incident plot
"When a German officer in a US Army POW camp in a rural American town is accused of murder, Harmon Cobb becomes his reluctant counsel."
During World War II, a German prisoner of war is accused of murdering the camp doctor. His lawyer Harmon Cobb (Walter Matthau), a friend of the doctor, faces a lot of opposition but makes some surprising discoveries. Cobb not only has to fight against his opponents, but also has to deal with his inner emotions. He himself is a veteran of the First World War and has little sympathy for the Germans.
