The Black Circle plot

Andrew MacTavish Ferguson and Lucy Baird, reporters for a New York newspaper, swap assignments. Both are fired when Lucy's article, written by Andrew, criticizes the political party the paper supports. They go to Lucy's home in the southern city of Bradford, where her father Daniel, who is about to run for sheriff, hires them to help revive his newspaper. But trouble arises when they uncover a bootlegging ring.
