"In the future, love and freedom will be like a film."
1978, Recife in the North of Brazil. In the bustling cabaret and nightclub 'Chão de Estrelas' people oppose the repressive military dictatorship with theatre, dance, samba and other exuberant performances. Cléssio is the nightclub's choreographer and sometimes he also performs, but the big star is Paulete, a manipulative and jealous drag queen. When the cute 18-year-old soldier Fininho comes to a show and sees Cléssio, he falls head over heels for him, much to the dismay of Paulete who also likes him. A turbulent relationship develops between the flamboyant Cléssio and the timid soldier, despite the fact that his world of a conservative soldier life with a homophobic atmosphere stands in stark contrast to the exuberance of Cléssio's cabaret and show life.
