Film about the problems of a newly formed family and the fight against cancer, but in fact the film is mainly about the children.

"Stepmom" is a good film, the American way, with some exaggeration in the effect of emotions (sentimentality, happiness, sadness... rounded up) but it still touches.

It is certainly nice how the children, who differ in age by a few years, react differently to the events. Well displayed. By the way, those two youngsters play very well and the smallest one even very funny. In addition, Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon can also look back on a good act.

Not special.

Especially a film that is nice to watch around Christmas, which has been on the road for less than a month now. That also says the most, because for the rest I didn't find it particularly excelling in a certain area.

Acting is very ordinary, Roberts isn't really my actress but otherwise does a decent job, as is Sarandon who doesn't really create much sympathy either. The then little Malone is pretty cute to look at and actually plays both ladies out for me.

For the rest it is quite ordinary, nowhere very sad but it is entertaining. The final result is actually just a normal Christmas movie that is cozy for a while, but also a movie that you only have to see once.

I could pull it though it is sometimes a bit of a edge. Not a Julia Roberts fan but I liked her part more than Sarandons. Who wouldn't want a stepmother like that? The kids are cute too. The situation with the two mommies becomes rather idealized towards the end. Fortunately the mother has cancer otherwise we would never have been able to put the stepmother in the spotlight so beautifully. Sentimental content (even a bit of false sentiment) is especially high towards the end. Apart from that, it's just a sympathetic tragicomedy to watch with the whole family, and you should just do it for the feel good.
