The seventh ( ) Christmas Carol film adaptation that I've seen over the years. I share the opinion that this is one of the best. It scores the highest with me with 3.5*, together with the versions from 1984 and 1999. I can now dream the fine story, and that's actually a shame when you're watching a film. In this one, the solid acting and the atmosphere stand out. I'm not tired of it yet, although I don't think any version will ever match my first viewing experience as a kid of I suspect the version from 1984, although I'm also not 100% sure that was the version I saw in the 80s.

The best A Christmas Carol film adaptation. Beautiful deep black camera work that gives the film a bit of a gothic horror feel. Of course, it remains essentially a ghost story, even though the story is quite moralizing.

In that respect it also stays very close to the story of Dickens (with some exceptions). Alistair Simm is great as the miserly Scrooge. He gives exactly the nuance that Scrooge needs. Fantastic actor who gives the character a wonderful shape with crazy ticks. Accurately directed too. The film flies by.

Furthermore, it is of course a wonderful film to watch on Christmas Eve.

4.5* and

Beautifully filmed with deep black and as mentioned above a certain gothic look but also certainly one that brings you to the poverty of Dickens' London of the mid-nineteenth century. Only the acting is really a bit too theatrical to go along with it completely. In the last scene that works quite well but in the rest of the film a bit less. Nevertheless rounded up 3.0*.
