Samaria plot

"Let him that is without sin first cast the stone at her."

Samaria examines the hidden sexual gut feelings in South Korean society. Two high school girls get involved in 'wonjo gyoje', where they have sex with older men for a fee. With this they want to pay for a trip to Europe. When one of them dies, the other becomes distraught and meets the older gentlemen her friend slept with to have sex with them and pay them back. Her father, however, finds out about her activities and wants revenge on the men who share the bed with his daughter.

Even though the behavior of the three main characters, the two girls and the father, are actually incomprehensible, there is a certain beauty about this film.

It is a game of human, usually contradictory feelings. Symbolism and dream images are often discussed, of which the beautiful final scenes in which guilt, retaliation, joy and sad hopelessness are strong examples.

Ki-duk-Kim brings beautiful Asian cinema : "Spring, Summer...", "3-Iron", "The Bow" and also this "Samaritan Girl" are good examples.

Nice review.

It is noticeable that this is a slightly more timid film between the rest of the Ki-duk films, so it is not surprising that the film has been snowed under a bit. Still, he's not very inferior to Ki-duk's other work. And its typical pre-slump characteristics are clearly present.

That is to say, nice drama, with some sharper edges here and there. And a strong focus on the characters, even more so than on plot and themes. It is mainly the situations that are secondary, and only serve to give color and substance to the characters. Maybe not so nice for people who are waiting for a smooth plot, but it doesn't bother me.

Very strong acting and a remarkably beautiful soundtrack. The ending is also a definite added value. Not everything is nicely rounded, but it still feels "finished". Very easy to recommend to fans of Ki-duk this film, the rest can better start with some more famous films I think. But a positive review that prompts us to quickly review some other Ki-duks.

4.0* and a extended review

Only after watching it for a while, I suddenly realized that I had already seen this film once. A beautiful South Korean drama with religious (Buddhist and Christian) elements. Very beautiful young girls, who perfectly reflect the innocence and naivety, especially the girl who dies with a smile on her face.
