Quartier Nègre plot

A newly married young French mining engineer arrives in Panama with his wife in 1937, but finds no work there, goes down the drain, goes to live with an underage Negro whore, much to the consternation of his own wife. Also to the horror of the white community, who see him as a failure. The black community reveres him as a hero.
