The films of films by André Téchiné always grate a bit. They can't all charm me. This one is doable, probably also because of the script by Céline Sciamma. The central characters are two boys, classmates in a kind of love-hate relationship. But we know "was sich liebt neckt sich''. We eventually get to see that completely, but that's not my thing. There's a lot more going on in this film, not everything seems equally functional to me.

Kacey Mottet Klein and Alexis Loret do a fantastic job: credible and natural. Their inner tensions and insecurities burst from the screen. That is certainly the best part of the film. I don't know about Sandrine Kiberlain, whether I found her credible as a mother, wife and family doctor. That's also a lot for a character. Here and there a bit flat and restrained. But that must have been her assignment. After all, it's about those two boys, on their way to adulthood. They don't have it easy.

Film about two classmates who initially mainly argue and the mother of one of them who is a general practitioner and a connecting factor. The film builds up very slowly but remains captivating. In the end it turns out to be mainly a growing up drama and gay film, but you don't see it coming right away and in that sense it is certainly positively different from its genre peers. The role of the mother is also very beautifully portrayed. At the beginning the story went excruciatingly slowly, while towards the end one event follows the other in rapid succession.
That's the only thing I might have had some trouble with in this film. But otherwise a very beautiful film in a beautiful landscape.

Story of the relationship between 17-year-old classmates Damien [Kacey Mottet Klein] and Thomas [Corentin Fila]. In three semesters. Newcomer Damien is initially bullied by Thomas, but they bond when Damien's mother [Sandrine Kiberlain] becomes a key GP in caring for Thomas' seriously ill mother [Mama Prassinos]. You can guess where it ends in this solidly made, but not very surprising or remarkable romantic drama.
