Promise at Dawn plot
"An unforgettable Mercouri experience"
Nina (Melina Mercouri) is a former Russian silent film star, who has abandoned her career to take care of her son. She is a single mother, the boy's father is a famous actor who wants nothing to do with both Nina and her child. To support herself, she joins a traveling theater company, posing as a famous French fashion designer. She leaves the group in Poland when her true identity is discovered. She travels to France and takes all kinds of jobs to support her son. When he is a bit older, he is recruited as a young adult to fight in World War II; first for the French, later for the British.
