Nianchan plot
During the depression in the 1950s, four orphans try to keep their heads above water. They come to the conclusion that they have better chances if they go separate ways. Kiichi leaves for Nagasaki, Ryoko finds work at a butcher and the two youngest, Koichi and Sueko, decide to roam.
