The movie doesn't live up to the hype for me. The film mainly has to rely on its beautiful and atmospheric images: especially in the first part of the film I often had the impression that people were more concerned with shooting beautiful pictures than with making a film. The story develops too slowly for my taste and tends to be boring. In any case, the film didn't grab me; I didn't really care what happened to the various characters and as far as I hoped it would end well, the movie didn't really build up the tension. I don't even know whether that was the intention or whether they simply want to give an atmospheric picture of the life of a young rebel group in the mountains or jungle as they really exist in Colombia. The latter certainly succeeded, but to be honest I never understand why people would want to film real life: I would rather see a good documentary that gives you much more information than such a film.

The film doesn't seem to have any philosophical themes or stratification either: it's more of a psychological story about how a group of teenagers , under the pressure of their hard existence as child soldiers, slowly but surely disintegrates and the chaos takes over from military discipline and even mission. The fun they had in the beginning does wear off at the end, but that's to be expected of course. And the reason doesn't seem so much that of The Heart of Darkness (far away from civilization we turn into beasts) but because children are not so suitable for war which will be the (slightly easy) moral of the film.

It lasts less than I expected. I think because I thought it was way too busy a movie. Take a moment to conjure up! The director must have been afraid that the story would come to a standstill or something, so much has to be put into it that it destroys the experience here and there.

Good film, but it would have been nice to have wanted to tell a little less.

Visually beautiful film in the spirit of the child soldiers of FARC and the kidnapping of Betancourt at the time. Couple that with the beautifully wild Colombian nature images of mountains and the jungle and you have seen a beautiful film. Order and discipline are central in the beginning of the film, in which the child soldiers give the best of themselves. They look pretty cool, but they are and remain children/adolescents, as it turns out.

There is gradually chaos in the group, with the dairy cow taking center stage. From then on, some plot comes into the story and you are curious who drops where. Cinematographically and visually beautiful film with, among other things, the river and mosquito scenes as a good example. The supporting music is also exciting and nicely integrated into the chaos.

Film that is close to 4.0 *, had expected just a little more from it in terms of story than, otherwise fine binoculars.
