An old industrialist is murdered in a Berlin hotel. The perpetrator, an Italian car mechanic, confesses to the murder but remains silent about his motive. Caspar Leinen is the young lawyer who takes the case. While investigating the case, Caspar comes across one of the biggest judicial scandals in German history and a truth no one wants to know.

I started this film without any prior knowledge. What a great movie! And it's really good that this subject is exposed in a German film. I have nothing to say about this at all. Captivating and exciting from start to finish and so beautifully portrayed. It's been a long time since a movie caught me like that. Ich bin wirklich sehr tief beeindruckt!

Newly graduated lawyer Caspar Leinen [Elyas M'Barek] is accidentally assigned a case in which he must defend the murderer of 84-year-old Hans Meyer [Manfred Zapatka], a man who was a father figure during Caspar's childhood. . Despite the potential conflict of interest, he takes on the defense of Fabrizio Collini [Franco Nero], who confessed to the murder but is silent as to his motive. As a result, Caspar comes up against his childhood friend Johanna [Alexandra Maria Lara], Hans Mayer's granddaughter. In addition, his mentor Prof. dr. Richard Mattinger [Heiner Lauterbach] the role of prosecutor per se. An unnecessarily complicated plot and the little-subtle direction by Marco Kreuzpainter, who uses all the clichés in the flashbacks and the finale to evoke emotion in the viewer, as well as the stereotypical portrayal of Lauterbach as the haughty accuser, detract from this. to a relevant piece of German judicial history. However, Franco Nero makes a big impression as the taciturn accused who tries to hide a big secret, especially when he drops his stoic mask. But the shortcomings of this historic courtroom drama result in a dramatic impact that is more equal to that of an average Perry Mason episode than, say, Judgment at Nuremberg (1961 ) or 12 Angry Men (1957).
