Years ago, Bessie gave up her independent existence to take care of her bedridden father Marvin and her childlike aunt. When the absent-minded Doctor Wally diagnoses Bessie with leukemia, she suddenly needs medical help herself. Reluctantly, her younger sister Lee returns home with her two sons.
