Foster is a Major in the French Foreign Legion. An American traumatized by the Great War, he must ensure that a group of archaeologists are protected during their excavations. He ends up in a small village where presumably Arab graves are located. When they finally dig it up, a tribe of El Krim attacks them. Foster must now ensure that all graves remain intact and the enemy is driven out.

The criticism of Terence Hill's acting is somewhat understandable, but he is also more or less accepted
forced the mold from his comedic work with Bud Spencer: Lighthearted and playful, the facial expressions
often also with an ironic wink. Yet his role gradually becomes pleasant, albeit
admitted that his expression of emotions later in the film was poor.
Gene Hackman once again does an excellent job as a callous major, with Ian Holm doing a great job as
opponent. Small reasonable roles by von Sydow and Deneuve.
The story took me along effortlessly, and also introduced me to some of the other members of the group
foreign legion and where the character of Terence Hill especially the meaning of
friendship within the legion seems to fulfill. Enough (sentimental) drama with this
an added value to the film.
The final battle scene of the fighters led by Holm versus the legion was depicted quite briefly but formidably.

Quite a reasonable film that I was completely unfamiliar with and saw for the first time tonight.
A more than excellent image of the Foreign Legion in Africa emerges, although with a considerable start-up, nevertheless the film radiates a certain authenticity and solidity. Plus of course the usual background that it is a refuge, with the Legion you have no past, but also no future. Something that is made quite clear.
March or die is characterized by a sometimes comradely image, but above all in a particularly ruthless image of the harsh existence, enemy and environment and of course a confrontation that cannot be avoided despite Hackman's attempt to keep the peace. Interesting role of Ian Holm as bandit leader in that respect. From Sydow also worth mentioning.
Nice movie for once, looking forward to the next time.

Interesting film adaptation of how the Foreign Legion was deployed for the benefit of the French Republic. Just after an exhausting war, the regiment and newcomers can compete in Morocco, where the tribes and their warlords have been at war with each other for some time. Ultimately, the far-sighted Hackmann, whatever cost him his position in the American army, turns out to be right about peace and connection between peoples. Strong performances by Hackmann, Hill, DeNeuve and Von Sydow. Spectacular final battle.
