It's an ok action/thriller movie, but could have been a bit more spicy. Scott Glenn plays his role well and so does the rest, the setting is well done, the city is nice and dirty and gray.

The original, after which the 2004 remake was made, 17 years later - just about a generation, and it shows. Just like the move from the original setting in Italy in the '80s, and the remake in Mexico. The original has Scott Glenn and a whole bunch of stars from back then - Brooke Adams, I won't say anything else. The remake has Denzel Washington, Radha Mitchell and Mickey Rourke, and then some.

Both films really breathe the sign of the times - in this case, the unrest and frequent kidnapping cases in Italy. Well done, and perfectly executed without falling into clichés from an American point of view. Just like the remake, I believe. And Glenn is just as convincing as a hero as Washington is in the remake - with the added bonus that with his shaved and cropped head he suddenly looks a lot more serious and dangerous.

One of the few examples of where a remake treats the original with respect, and still has its own value. And rightly so, because the original is a film in itself that does not really need to be improved, but rather comes to new life in a different context. Nice work, both the remake and this original.
