Les Otages plot

Beaumont, mayor of Champagny-sur-Marne, has been at odds with the landlord Rossignol for 30 years over an easement lawsuit. The war breaks out. The Germans invade Champagny and impose heavy taxes on the municipality. Rossignol's son is secretly married to Beaumont's daughter. During his stay in the village he kills a German officer.
