France, the thirties. Yves Treguier, a fourteen-year-old orphan, ends up in an educational institution; a stern institution surrounded by rough, high walls. He has run away from his previous abodes several times and is also an eternal dreamer. Now he has only one idea in his head: try to flee to a harbor and then travel by boat to New York.
