Leave no trace. Leave no trace. Walk away from your existence. Walk away from your existence. Flight. In front of? The others? No, especially for yourself. For memories. Memories that leave no trace on the surface, but have made a mess deep inside.

Leave no trace. Leave no trace. Live like a fugitive, live like an intruder in other people's territory. Live like a veteran who is at the epicenter of a war, live as if you could be found and destroyed at any moment.

Leave no trace. Leave no trace. Come back from an armed conflict, come back as a hero and liberator of your own nation, but afterwards mainly withdraw to the margins of society, hide in the margins of society. Take your pills, don't whine. Do your best. Do like the rest. Leave no trace in 'here' of what has taken place 'over there'. Please, thank you.

Leave no trace. Leave no trace. Do not carve your own wounds in your daughter's soul. “The same thing that's wrong with you isn't wrong with me.” Don't expect to follow in your footsteps, even if she's your only one, your most important possession. Also cut your last connection to the world, the umbilical cord that binds you to reality. Erase that last track. Free yourself with the hardest of all proverbial murders. Kill your darling, let her go.

No spectacle, no grand gestures, no moralizing finger, no penchant for profundity. Life as it is: modestly captured by Debra Granik, played intensely by Ben Foster and Thomasin McKenzie. Not much to cheer about in this 'Leave no trace', but the compassion just jumps off the screen. Very touching, and let's be honest: far from irrelevant, this story.

Wonderful film taken from life that sees the viewer purely as a spectator and not as a student who has to get everything explained.
Glad these kinds of videos still exist.
I already knew Thomasin McKenzie from the somewhat later Jojo Rabbit and here too he plays pure and convincing. With little dialogue between father and daughter and with a calm story without fuss, the film remains captivating without any effort.

Running away from your problems and your inner struggles, I think we can all recognize it in small or larger sizes.

Leave no trace is pure, human and wonderful to look at.

Pleasant surprise!
