Le Roi de Coeur plot
Towards the end of the First World War, the German army withdraws from the French city of Marville, but not without leaving a time bomb behind. The residents flee in terror and inform the arriving British army, who orders Charles Plumpick to locate the bomb. In order not to be noticed, he hides in the local asylum, where he is awarded the title 'roi du cœur' (king of hearts). Plumpick becomes more and more sympathetic to the patients.
