La Tendresse plot
During a trip from Brussels to the peaks of the Alps, we meet a couple who have been separated for fifteen years and now spend two days together. They go together to pick up their son who is in hospital after a serious skiing accident. Over time, the bitterness that came after love gives way to a softer feeling… tenderness perhaps?

Olivier Gourmet, alongside Cécile de France, Jérmie Renier and Yolande Moreaux, one of those French-speaking Belgian actors who have a firm foothold in French cinema, gives a truly sublime performance here, in a film that holds tenderness and sympathy in high regard and does so by means of small, unshocking and generally funny events, neatly staged.
Trivial incidents that may have seemed irritating to Lise and Frans at the time are now covered with an understanding and almost loving cloak.
It is feelgood and enjoyable to follow and the title could not have been chosen better and also the beautiful closing song by Bourvil, with the same name, is "sympa".
Marion Hansel brought something quite different from her beautiful "Si le Vent soulève les Sables" but she is also convincing in this little film.

Long time since I saw Olivier Gourmet at work. He remains an underrated actor. Very solid and regularly performed by the Dardenne brothers. No social drama here, but a light road movie between exes on their way to the French Alps. Very light story, not too long either, not boring, but also not something I would necessarily recommend.
No cliché story of a love reunion. Thank goodness, but there is that feeling of affection and appreciation between two exes who admire each other for who they are, but also know very well why living together could no longer be possible. A sympathetic film, but nothing more than that.
