Five people work on the outskirts of Barcelona and their paths cross every day: Iurie, a Moldovan wrestler waiting for Spanish papers, now works on farmer Raül's harvest. Raül took over the farm from his parents. The situation becomes critical when an insect plague infests his fields and threatens to lose his crop. Respiratory problems force his neighbor Maria, a 90-year-old farmer, to move into a retirement home. There she meets geriatric nurse Rosemarie from the Philippines, who has only been living in Spain for a short time and who walks to work every day. On a dirt road near the highway, Maribel sits on a shaky lawn chair, trying to earn a living as a prostitute for herself and her unemployed son.
