Koto plot
Chieko Sanda has worked for the past 20 years in a dry goods store, which has been owned by her family for several generations, in Kyoto. She is faced with the question of whether her daughter Mai will take over her position. Mai is a university student and doesn't know what she wants to do when she graduates. Meanwhile, Mitsuko Nakata, Chieko's twin sister whom she hasn't seen since childhood, runs a forestry business in the suburbs of Kyoto. However, she has serious financial problems. Mitsuko's daughter, Yui, has talent in art and tries to fulfill her dream in France.
