Kona fer í Stríð plot

"Halla is a choir teacher. She's also a saboteur."

Halla is a fifty-year-old independent woman. But behind the scenes of a quiet routine, she leads a double life as a passionate environmentalist. Known only as "The Woman of the Mountain", she battles the local aluminum industry. As Halla's actions intensify, from petty vandalism to outright industrial sabotage, she manages to interrupt negotiations between the Icelandic government and the company to build a new aluminum smelter in the mountains.

An entertaining movie. Well played, a fascinating story and nicely done with the music and singing in between. That adds something and fits in, I think. I always think it's amazing how one person can play two people in one movie, and the lead actress literally went through the mud for the role. It's slightly comedic, which I also liked. It took me a while to get into it, but then the raft looked away and I had a great time. Enough. 3.5*

This film is not only excessively one-sided, it is also far too aware of it. Political blinders are celebrated by framing resistance as a comic-dramatic spectacle. The opponent? A police state full of anonymous black suits and sunglasses (and one lady-namaste!). Everything for Gandhi, Buddha and Mandela.

The festival run, the Lux nomination and the relatively wide arthouse release show that there is a large audience for this frivolous left-wing pamphlet. If you make such a film, have the courage to question your own position and place your political starting point in a broader context.

Instead, we get a pedantic ending that also aims to stir sentiment.

It's that I only recently saw Capharnaüm, otherwise Woman At War could easily be the most cringeworthy title in a long time.

Was on Canvas tonight (kudos to Flemish TV), and I enjoyed it immensely! Nice story, good cast, fantastic soundtrack (live!). Delicious! The recurring tourist (a Spaniard on a cycling holiday in Iceland!), the 'alleged cousin' and twin sister as partners in crime ... Also makes me very curious about other work of this director...
