"NO ONE CAN ESCAPE THE SINS OF THE PAST"
Detective Dave Robicheaux investigates the murder of a hooker. He suspects mob boss Julie - Baby Feet - Balboni behind this gory crime but has no proof yet. When a film crew lands in Louisiana, he discovers that the new film is being produced with the support of mob boss Baby Feet. Hollywood star Elrod Sykes stars in this Civil War movie. When Elrod Sykes is stopped by Detective Robicheaux for drink-driving, he starts to get loose. He's babbling about a body he's found. This murder took place 35 years ago and Detective Robicheaux can still remember it well.

Blurry film that never really becomes a thriller, at most a mystery-like thing. Atmosphere and music completely pass me by, and throughout the film I wonder: am I really going to watch this. Of course it has its nice moment, like the nature shots, and a few atmospheric moments, but running a film only on that grim head of TLJ is not enough. There must be more cachet. And then that annoying Peter Sarsgaard who adds nothing...

Tommy Lee Jones, the swamps, a secret from the past, the brooding atmosphere of the American South, anyone with something to hide, an interesting lineup of supporting actors including Levon Helm, mysterious "impossible" appearances, what could this still go wrong? Unfortunately, it's just not all that – just not atmospheric enough, just not exciting enough, just not intriguing enough, just not colorful enough, just not pointed enough, just not enough flesh for the long run, and the Confederates[/ spoiler] add just too little to the story, so that the film (at least for me) promises a lot, but even after several viewings it barely sticks.
